For old people who already 60 years old who have old minded may can see the advantage of insuring their assets such as their house or car. Like my parent, they do not insure their assets (house and car). When i asked them why they do not insure their car and their house until now they simply said they did not need it. Then i tried to ask deeper. They said that they did not find any car insurance to insure their car because they usually drive save. So when we drive save then no bad things will happen to our cars. We will not need any cost to fix our car if nothing happens to our car. This works the same for our house. My parent also said that it is difficult to find a good insurance company.

When I heard their explanations I still can not accept the way they think. I just thing that everyone does not want anything bad to happen to our life or assets. I noticed an interesting article in the online version of Insurance Journal. It discussed a ruling from the South Dakota Supreme Court. And, if you are an employer, then it is a decision to keep in mind.

Case number 24943 of the South Dakota Supreme Court was decided at the end of May. The case is entitled Catherine Rose McGuire, v. Dean J. Curry, and Park Jefferson Speedway, Inc., a South Dakota Corporation, v. Christopher Eric Mollet. The quick facts are that Ms. McQuire was a passenger on Mr. Mollet’s motorcycle. Dean Cury was an employee of the Speedway and, after work, while intoxicated and speeding, he struck the motorcycle seriously injuring Ms. McQuire.

Employers should take note of the case because the Court held that the employer could be held liable for the actions of its underage employee. Why? Because the employer allowed its underage employee unsupervised access to alcohol. “After hiring Curry as a runner, the Speedway gave him a key to its alcohol storage facility,” according to the facts of the Court’s opinion. The Court held that it was not unforeseeable that “a member of the general public could be injured when the employer provided an employee, who was below the drinking age, unsupervised and unrestricted access to alcoholic beverages.”

I took note of this because retaining underage “runners” is not unusual. Your intrepid Guide was a “runner” when working through college. Here the employer had a no-drinking policy, the accident took place off of the employer’s property, and the Court found that the state statutes concerning underage consumption used the term “permitted” and it was clear that the Speedway did not permit the consumption. But, because the employer provided access and no supervision, a duty to third-parties (the public) arose.

It is a reminder to employers that a zero tolerance policy regarding alcohol and underage consumption needs to be enforced and employees monitored to make it effective.

Pull onto the hard shoulder, park as far over to the left as you can, away from traffic, and turn on your hazard warning lights. Get yourself and any passengers out of the vehicle immediately, using the doors on the left hand side furthest from the traffic. While you wait for help, keep well away from the carriageway and hard shoulder and do not try even the simplest of repairs.

Try to use the emergency roadside telephones rather than a mobile phone. This will help traffic officers and emergency services know exactly where you are.

Change the way you drive:

A lot of collisions are caused by people not braking in time when the roads are wet or slippery. If it’s foggy, raining, snowing or icy, make sure you slow down and keep well back from the vehicle in front of you.

Stopping distances in winter

When roads are slippery it will take longer to stop. Up to 10 times longer. So, drop your speed, and give yourself more time to slow down and stop. Drive with care even if roads have been treated.

When the road’s wet, it can take up to twice as long to stop so it makes sense to slow down when it’s raining. If your vehicle loses its grip, or “aquaplanes”, on surface water take your foot off the accelerator to slow down. Don’t brake or steer suddenly because you have no control of the steering or brakes.

During winter make sure you are checking your vehicle for the following:

• Get your vehicle serviced. That way you know it won’t let you down even if the weather does.

• Keep the cold out of your vehicle by checking and replacing the anti-freeze in the radiator.

• Most batteries last between two and four years. Make sure yours is fully charged and replace it if you’re not sure it’s reliable.

• Lights can get filthy with all the spray in winter. Keep them clean and check the bulbs regularly so you’ll be prepared for lower visibility and shorter days.

• Getting a better grip on the road takes more tyre tread in wet or icy conditions. Ensure your tyres are inflated to the manufacturers’ recommended pressure and have at least 3mm of tread depth.

• Make sure your wiper blades aren’t worn so you can keep your windscreen as clean as possible for the extra spray, ice and rain you get in winter.

• Dirty windows and mirrors can make it hard to see as the low winter sun hits. Make sure you keep them clean and free of ice and snow in colder weather. Ensure your windows are clear and de-misted before you set off!

• Don’t forget to take a map with your for any unplanned diversions.

• Take an emergency kit.
